Wingecarribee commuters will benefit from $2.5 million in Black Spot funding
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor says the Wingecarribee community will benefit from the allocation of $2.5 million in funding to the Hume Highway under the Federal Government’s Black Spot Programme.
Mr Taylor said councils across the Hume electorate had secured funding for 20 new projects to a value of $7.25 million - 13% of all Black Spot funding across NSW.
The Wingecarribee area will benefit from funding for the following Black Spots:
$1.5 million – Hume Highway at Paddys River - install wire rope barriers
$1.03 million – Hume Highway at Yanderra from Remembrance Drive over pass to 2.5km south - install wire rope barriers
“This year’s projects are part of a record commitment of $500 million to the Black Spot Programme in the 2014 Budget, which included an additional $200 million from the Infrastructure Growth Package. An extra 110 projects will now be funded in NSW during 2015-16.”
Mr Taylor said councils across Hume, including Wingecarribee Shire, had jumped on board to take advantage of the broader eligibility criteria for this and next year’s funding rounds, which will improve dangerous stretches of road and hazardous intersections.
“With 20 new Black Spot projects approved across Hume, we are again doing very well to secure a larger than average share of the funding pie. I am keen to continue working closely with local councils and provide support to get the best results from these major infrastructure programmes,” Mr Taylor said.
“There has been a big cash injection for the main artery through our electorate, the Hume Highway, to make the Hume safer, which is great news for many of us.”
He said four separate road safety projects would be funded along the Hume, including the two mentioned in the Wingecarribee Shire as well as a further two near Goulburn.
