Thursday, 12 November 2015

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor spoke in parliament today to congratulate Boorowa schools on the success of their recent fundraising carnival.

“Host schools, Boorowa Central School and St Joseph's, raised 13 and a half thousand dollars each after costs…a great result for one day of fundraising,” Mr Taylor said.

He acknowledged that the Combined Primary Schools Touch Football and Netball Carnival was in its 70th year.

“70 years of running the same sporting carnival is a pretty big achievement. More than 3000 kids – and at least 2000 supporters – from across southern NSW and the ACT were at the carniva

“Again, Boorowa showground was teaming with colour.”

Mr Taylor said the beauty of the tournament was that there were no trophies.

“The aim isn’t winning. It’s about fun, fitness and involvement.

“It was a delight to meet many of the kids and I especially loved cheering on the composite touch footy team from Rye Park, Rugby and Wee Jasper – some of the smallest schools in my electorate.”

Mr Taylor attributed the event’s success and growth to the hardworking members of the organising committee including Robert Daniels, Julie Harton, Erin Harris, Patty Boulding, Brendan Maynard and many others.

He also acknowledged the support of Boorowa Council.
