Federal  representatives Senator Zed Seselja, Dr Peter Hendy MP and Angus Taylor MP will meet today with local government representatives from the region to discuss how they can all work together to grow the local  economy.

The meeting today has been organised in collaboration with the ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher, and the South East Regional Organisation of Councils (SEROC) which represents the Councils of Bombala, Boorowa, Cooma-Monaro, Eurobodalla, Goulburn-Mulwaree, Harden, Palerang, Queanbeyan, Snowy River, Upper Lachlan, Yass Valley and Young.

“Federal government policy encourages private sector growth in the national capital and the surrounding region,” stated Dr Hendy, Senator Seselja and Mr Taylor.

“During the Howard Government, approximately 60 per cent of the labour market was employed by the private sector – this was a great achievement which strengthened the local economy whilst paying off the large debt left by the previous administration.

“Today’s meeting will provide an opportunity for local government representatives to share their views on how co-operation between their administrations and the Federal Government can create sustainable growth for the region.

“Across the region we need to concentrate on building a stronger private sector that is not restrained by red tape and regulation.

“This meeting is part of ongoing dialogue between the federal and local government representatives focussed on building a sustainable regional economy.”
