Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has welcomed details of a $200 million Federal funding package to upgrade local roads around Badgery’s Creek.

“This signals the beginning of expansive and ongoing job creation for the north of Hume,” Mr Taylor said.

“The Federal Government is encouraging local councils in the area, including Wollondilly Shire Council, to lodge an expression of interest. The Local Roads Package will be delivered in three rounds between 2014 and 2024 and Council will work with NSW Roads and Maritime Services to develop submissions for these rounds.

“The Local Roads Package is expected to fund projects valued at between $5 million and $10 million, although larger projects will be considered. Projects must enhance the capacity of the road network surrounding the airport, improve connections to the Sydney motorway network and grow employment opportunities. I will work closely with Wollondilly Council to get the best possible outcome for our region.

Mr Taylor said tenders had also recently opened for construction of a 5.7 km upgrade of Bringelly Road which would slash travel times in the area and improve access to Badgery’s Creek airport.

“The Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan also includes $1.6 billion to upgrade 31 km of The Northern Road to four lanes from Narellan to the M4 Motorway and $1.25 billion to build a new 14 km motorway from the M7 Motorway and The Northern Road.

“Parts of the South West Growth Centre, particularly around Oran Park, Catherine Fields and Turner Road, are right on Wollondilly’s doorstep. Forecasts are for a potential 42 thousand new homes and 22 thousand new jobs in this new growth centre area.”
