Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said he was delighted to announce the first towers in his electorate under the National Broadband Network’s (NBN) rollout of fixed wireless services were up near Cowra and Young.

Mr Taylor said there were six new towers under construction in the Cowra and Young local government areas, which would provide fast broadband access to thousands of residents. The towers are at:

  • Koorawatha
  • the Olympic Highway between Cowra and Koorawatha
  • Gooloogong
  • the Lachlan Valley Way between Gooloogong and Cowra
  • south of Canowindra and
  • between Derbys Falls and Wyangala.

“I was at Koorawatha last weekend and saw one of the new towers. They’ve been a long time coming.  Labor’s extraordinary mismanagement of the NBN has caused long delays and a budget nightmare to sort out.

“There’s still a wait for these areas to be connected. NBNCo says it takes about 12 months from construction until nearby residents and businesses can hook up to the internet, but finally we can see a tower or two.

“This is a whole new NBN rollout, prioritising areas of highest need, including rural and regional communities.

“The Coalition Government’s NBN rollout will deliver network competition from the private sector, we will match technologies to locations and prioritise to those parts of Australia that need it most, like my electorate of Hume.”
