Funding to salute the service of men and women in Grenfell, Young and Koorawatha

Wednesday, 29 April 2015

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has announced the latest recipients for funding under the Saluting Their Service programme through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

“The Saluting Their Service programme is a rolling funding programme and in the year of the Anzac Centenary it’s great news we have three more projects that will receive funding for local commemorations of the Great War and conflicts since,” MrTaylor said.

He said the funding was in addition to 34 commemorative projects already approved for Hume under the Anzac Centenary Local Grants Programme.

Successful Saluting Their Service applications announced this week were the:

Grenfell Historical Society - $3,000 for the publishing of a book documenting the service of the men and women of Bimbi during the First World War.

Young RSL Sub-Branch - $4,000 for the installation of a new war memorial at Monteagle to commemorate the local men and women from the district who have served in all wars and conflicts.

Wirrimah Koorawatha RSL Sub-Branch - $1,727 for the installation of ten new plaques at the Wirrimah War Memorial commemorating veterans post Second World War.

“These are great local initiatives and will be well received by the community. As has been evidenced by the large crowds and strong emotion of the Anzac Centenary  commemorations, it is so important that we continue to pay tribute to the service of local men and women for many, many years to come.”
