Good luck to Hume high school students sitting the HSC

Friday, 10 October 2014

With the HSC starting on Monday, Federal Member for Hume, Angus Taylor, wished students the best of luck at this important time.

“It was exactly 30 years ago that I did the HSC, and I still remember the nerves like it was yesterday. At the time, the HSC seemed like the most important thing in the world, and I don’t want to understate its importance.

“But it is important to keep it in perspective. You do your best, and that is all anyone can ask of you.”

Mr Taylor also emphasised the importance of support from family and friends in managing any stresses and getting the best possible results. “I was blessed with a wonderfully supportive family, and a terrific group of friends who provided support when things got tough.

“The great thing about family and friends is they can help you to keep things in perspective.”

711 students from local high schools in the Hume electorate will undertake the HSC in 2014. Mr Taylor provided a School Leavers Guides to each student as they completed their schooling last term, outlining a range of further education and training and career development options.

In the week he announced the Federal Government’s commitment to a Headspace centre for Goulburn, Mr Taylor emphasised the need to seek professional help if it all becomes overwhelming.

“We all face times when we feel overwhelmed, so I encourage anyone struggling with the pressure to seek professional help. Parents and professionals are becoming increasingly aware of the need to provide strong support.

“Most importantly, good luck, and remember that all we can ask of ourselves is that we do our best!”
