Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has announced applications are now open under round one of the Australian Government’s $1 billion National Stronger Regions Fund.

The new Fund will target projects that deliver priority economic development and small scale community infrastructure at a local level throughout Australia.

“I have been talking a lot to local councils in the lead up to the opening of this round. It represents an enormous opportunity for projects across Hume to get their share of this major new investment in growth,” Mr Taylor said.

“The Fund will support a range of local and regional development initiatives that are designed to spur economic growth – from freight and transport projects to convention centres and major multi-purpose sports and community facilities.

“The Government’s focus is on strengthening economies in Australia’s most disadvantaged regions and communities by improving productivity, economic opportunity, employment and workforce skills.”

Mr Taylor said applicants were able to apply for between $20,000 and $10 million in Commonwealth funding, covering up to 50 per cent of project costs.

“The Fund promotes partnerships - with project proponents encouraged to engage with the private sector and possibly local and New South Wales governments.

“I urge community groups and councils across Hume to get behind this programme to ensure these investment dollars come our way.”

Guidelines detailing eligibility, how to lodge an application, assessment processes and critical programme dates are available by visiting www.infrastructure.gov.au/nsrf.

Applications for round one funding will be accepted between 1 October 2014 and 5pm on 28 November 2014.
