  • Next-generation nbn fixed wireless tower goes live in Exeter
  • 460 premises can now connect to high speed broadband
  • Fixed wireless has highest customer satisfaction rating on the NBN

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has welcomed the activation of a fixed wireless nbn tower in Exeter which will connect residents to fast, affordable broadband.

“Exeter is now part of the 90 per cent of Hume that already has access to the nbn – more than 62,000 homes and businesses in the electorate can now make the connection,” he said.

“Fixed wireless is the success story of the regional nbn roll out – and it’s a fantastic technology connecting the Southern Villages of the Highlands, with households in Wingello and north of Bundanoon also accessing high speed broadband from fixed wireless towers.

“Marulan is due to go live in early 2018 and the nbn is planning to expand the fixed wireless network to Tallong and Paddys River in 2018.”

Exeter Village Association president Simon Bathgate welcomed the switching-on of the local tower.

“This is great news for the village of Exeter. Those who have connected to the Devon Road (North Bundanoon) tower are reporting a five-fold increase in speeds both up and down, not to mention superior reliability,” he said.

“With the promised increased speed in 2018 we will finally be competing effectively with those in the larger towns.”

Mr Taylor said fixed wireless had the highest satisfaction rating on the nbn and offered speeds of up to 50 megabits a second download and 20 megabits a second upload.

“This technology helps spur local businesses who employ local people,” he said.

“nbn co recently announced the speed available on fixed wireless will double in many areas next year, offering downloads of up to100 Mbps and uploads of up to 40 Mbps in 2018.”

“Residents and businesses in the Southern Villages can talk to the many dozens of retail broadband providers offering fixed wireless plans about the services available in their area and how to sign up.”

  • 460 premises can now connect to the Exeter tower
  • 278 premises can now connect to the Wingello tower
  • 186 premises can now connect to the North Bundanoon tower
  • 243 premises can now connect to the Mt Gibraltar tower
  • The planned Marulan tower will service up to 570 premises
  • The planned Tallong tower will service about 200 premises

Fixed wireless delivers fast broadband through 1700 fixed wireless towers around the nation.
