Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor will officially open the Cootamundra Arts Centre tomorrow Friday 14 March.

Mr Taylor congratulated council and the community on ‘an outstanding team effort.’

“The Australian Government committed $93,000 to this project under the former Regional Development Australia Fund. Cootamundra Shire Council contributed $163,000.

“Total investment has been $256,000 - but it’s the huge number of volunteer hours which has made this such a signature project,” Mr Taylor said.

“Volunteers have contributed more than 21,000 hours to getting this up and running, well and truly showcasing the Coota spirit. I congratulate everyone involved on their hard work.

“Over the years the Arts Centre has hosted a large variety of artists including internationally renowned pianist Roman Rudyntski, Ian Cooper and Simon Tedeschi, Janet Seidel and HotHouse theatre productions.

“It is now home to all of Cootamundra’s artistic endeavours and will play a vital role in the wider district’s cultural development and the range of recreational activities on offer.

“With these upgrades, the centre is able to open seven days a week rather than part time, with three full time staffing positions created. There were also employment opportunities through the construction phase.

“I know the centre will continue supporting local artists and performers, as well as attracting visitors and investment to the town. It is a great privilege to be able to declare the Cootamundra Arts Centre officially open,” Mr Taylor said.
