Picton business chamber welcomes Taylor pep talk
In a pep talk to Picton Chamber of Commerce, Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said business opportunities in Wollondilly were at an all-time high.
Speaking at a recent chamber meeting, Mr Taylor referred to the ‘massive growth’ potential from Badgerys Creek airport, the fast tracking of telecommunications infrastructure to Wollondilly, plans for a new town at Wilton Junction and the strong drive coming from community leaders including council, small businesses and local schools.
“It’s no accident there has been a run of ministerial visits to Wollondilly. We had Paul Fletcher here a few weeks ago to announce four new mobile phone towers for Wollondilly, Small Business Minister Bruce Billson addressing a community forum in Picton in June and I was able to represent Senator Scott Ryan, the Parliamentary Secretary for Education, at the opening of the Wollondilly Anglican College Trades Skills Centre just last week. We have part funded Picton-Bargo-Thirlmere RSL Hall which will continue to bring veterans’ groups and the local community together and we’ve announced $250,000 for the Picton Family Medical Centre to train more GPs. There’s a lot going on here and a lot coming up.”
Mr Taylor said his door was always open to support local business looking to have a go. “This Government is laying a framework of incentives to invest, access to new markets, we’re stripping away red tape and impediments to growth, as well as funding infrastructure - large and small, national and local - to grow jobs. Wollondilly is ideally positioned to take advantage of the opportunities on its doorstep.”
Picton Chamber of Commerce president Aaron Greffenius said members were delighted to be hearing from Angus in person. “We realise he covers a large electorate, so his presence demonstrated the real value he has placed on speaking with the small business community. Angus was well received on the night. He spoke on small business, the NBN and managing the growth of our area in relation to the airport going in. Our members had some great questions for him and he didn't shy away from any particular topic, so that was appreciated. Members were also pleased to hear about the enhancements to the health needs for our area and happy to hear about Angus’ focus on this area.”
