Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has praised the design and construction of the new sub acute wing at Goulburn Base Hospital officially opened today.

Mr Taylor joined other guests including Member for Goulburn Pru Goward, Goulburn Mayor Geoff Kettle and Local Health District representatives on a tour of the 20 bed facility which has been functioning for four months.

“What strikes you as you walk through the ward is the thought, care and attention to detail that has gone into design and construction,” Mr Taylor said.

“There’s a mix of one and two-bed bedrooms, it’s a relaxed atmosphere with a focus on individual patients and their recovery. Rehabilitation is for patients following a range of injuries, or illness or surgery and most will stay for about a week.”

Mr Taylor said funding for the $10.4 million rehabilitation wing was made available through COAG (Council of Australian Governments).

“There have been major capital works completed at Goulburn Base over recent months, including new operating theatres and an expanded emergency department. I am delighted to have seen today these much needed improvements.

“The new Coalition Government is committed to supporting strong public hospitals like Goulburn Base in providing universal access to healthcare. As part of our election pledge, we will ensure greater community involvement in local hospital management so that decisions for Goulburn health care are made here by the community in Goulburn.”
