School STEM grants up for grabs

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor is encouraging Hume schools to apply for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) grants of up to $20,000 each.

The latest round of the Australian Government’s Sponsorship Grants is now open to primary and high school students, to participate in STEM events including conferences, competitions and other events in Australia and internationally.

The program offers grants of between $1000 and $20,000. Grants are capped at $1500 per student for domestic use and $5000 per student for international events.

Mr Taylor said STEM skills will be in demand for decades to come.

“The Turnbull Government is investing in support for STEM and the sponsorship grants are a fantastic opportunity for new experiences. I encourage all young people to apply.”

Applications for the Sponsorship Grants for Student Science Engagement and International Competitions can be submitted online. Funding is allocated to eligible applicants in order of receipt until exhausted.

Nominations are also open for the Superstars of STEM program, which encourages women working in STEM fields to nominate as ambassadors to inspire other young women into STEM roles.

Run by Science & Technology Australia, the Turnbull Government has invested $1.3 million over four years to expand the program.
